Another set of updated stats and this time I have added a second page. The new stats (you’ll be pleased to hear that I’m not top of any of them) are a weighted average, number of 10+ scores and min and max game scores.
The weighted average gives a more accurate picture of the team leg and match averages by taking in to account the number of games each player has played. For example in the normal averages each players score a given equal rating, so for example, Liam’s 1st leg average has the same weight as mine even though he has played 1 game and I have played 17. The new system means that my first leg average is given 17 times more weight than Liam’s. Overall this more accurately reflects what happens on any given evening as those who play most will likely be the ones playing.
Anyway, here are the stats: Latest Statistics.

Another good win for the HGA means they are still have a chance of not finishing bottom of the league. The game started close with good scoring from everyone, with the exception of a big fat duck from Jon Street. Despite only having 7 men for that leg we only lost by 1 pin. Leg two once again saw a close match up, this time it was Mr. Worsley and Mr. Gill letting the side down with 3 and 4 respectively; still the Oak only had 4 in the box though and from here things started to pick up.
Leg 3 was close in the right direction this time, as the Groom pulled 1 back with solid scoring through out the order (with the exception of Mr. Gill, again) and as we headed toward the end of the game confidence was begging to rise. The 4th leg brought the box to the Groom with more above average scoring and really put the Oak on the back foot as we headed toward the deciding leg of the match.
The game stood 2 legs each with the Groomers having only 1 in the box to play with. Beat your man was the mantra for this leg and most, but not all, did leaving the situation very tight when Mr. Gill stood to play last. With the Oak scoring a 52 leg despite their last man stuttering to a 5 they now had 6 in the box and with the way Mat had been playing stood a good chance of at least winning that leg. Fortunately a good first ball opened the way for a 13 spare to finish the match giving the Groom 5 points toward the league.
Special mention goes to J. Faulks whos form is really hitting a high as we head to the tail of the season, he picked up the pot with a score of 36 beating 3 players on 35!

The HGA made it a second win in a row with a dramatic finish against the Taverners on Friday night. Leg one wasn’t the best from either side but the A Team did manage to build a useful 14 point box despite only getting 49 on the leg; this was helped by new comer JJ getting 9 to open his account. Buoyed by this Daz opened the second leg with a flopper finish with 15 after throwing ball 2 away. Another 9 from JJ and 8 from Mr. Faulks help the team to a 64 leg and a lead now of 30. Cruising at this point things started to go wrong. Despite JJ continuing his strong form with 8 and 9s from I Hill and J Faulks the side could only manage a leg score of 50 opening the door to a comeback from the Taverners who were scored a strong 60 themselves pulling right back in to the match. Good scoring from the lower order in the 4th leg meant that only another 5 points were lost leaving the game set up for a tense 5th and final leg.
The 5th leg began with the A Team now only 15 up and their form dipping while after pulling back half of their deficit the Taverners morale was high. The early scoring was tight but only JJ was able to match his man in the top half and the lead was now down to 10. The bottom half didn’t fair much better as the lead disappeared behind strong Taverners play, and by the time Mr. Gill was up to finish the game a score of 9 or more was needed to have any real hope of winning the match as the Taverners were now up by 1. 7 pins went down with ball one, leaving a split requiring 2 pins with each of the last 2 balls for the 9. After a disappointing first 4 legs he finally had a little bit of luck and hit the 9. The Taverners final player needing 8 to tie and split the points evenly or 9 to win could only manage 7 give the HGA 4 points and hope of getting off the bottom of the table.

With the team looking to make a break through and get ahead of the ‘C Team’ we traveled down to the Labour Club with high hopes that last weeks problems would be put behind us.
The match saw consistent play all round, unfortunately is was consistently mediocr - for the second match running no H & G player managed a score above 40. All in all another 1 point performance was only made interesting by the close race for the fines pot. With 4 players in the hunt all the way to the wire, 3 finished on 33 (Dave Hunter, Jeremy Lane and Lee Miles) only pipped by 2 with the final ball by Mat Gill (35).
As we head back home next week the team is looking for a return to the early season form that showed what it is capable of.

A cold wet night in October was the setting for a pretty dismal performance from the ‘A Team’, on a night where half the team really didn’t get going it showed that 4 players isn’t enough to win a match. With scores of 38 from Leigh Pickering, 37 from Mat Gill, 35 from Ian Hill and 32 from Lee Miles we could have hoped for more than 1 point, but with the other four players all on 16 going in to the final leg maybe we were lucky to get that.
After a great start from Leigh (15 spare) the first leg was a fine 57 and left the team confident for the match, unfortunately with leg scores of 43, 38, 43 and 48 the was little chance of any more points. The growth of the fines pot really served to illustrate the poor display of the team allowing Leigh to walk away £9 better off.
